Computer Science involves the investigation and exploration of the theory, practice and use of computers and computation.
Programme content
In first year, students work in our new active learning lab on group projects solving complex problems. Students build a strong foundation in logical reasoning and problem solving, share their solutions through various programming languages, understand the physical electronics and basic operations of a computer, explore cutting-edge research topics and investigate careers through invited lectures from software companies.
In later years students have access to over 35 modules, exploring areas as diverse as advanced Software Engineering, Mobile Application Development, Networks & Internet Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Web Multimedia, Unix Programming, Databases, Processor Design, Cognitive Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Forensics, Graphics and Parallel Computing. Students learn to overcome challenging problems using programming languages such as Java, C++, Perl and Ruby; markup languages such as HTML, XML; internet technologies such as ASP, PHP and Flash; graphics languages such as OpenGL and VRML; forensic tools such as X-Ways
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
GCSE Grade B in Maths required.
